Good question. Many evaluations are starting or have already started. Please check your emails and watch our new calender. During the week before Easter we plan to have Co-ordinators in place for each division and thier contact information will appear on the "Teams" tab. They will be the first to know of upcoming events and schedules. However, please don't scare away our volunteers, Events, timing, numbers, and people involved often change in April. Please check back often.

Rookie Division baseball is for players 8 and 9 years old (born 2000 and 2001) who are interested in learning the basic fundamentals and skills development of baseball within a recreational baseball program. This is accomplished by stressing and maintaining active participation by all players during the game of baseball played in accordance with the Official Rules of baseball by Baseball Canada, with the incorporation of the rules contained in the official CMBA – Rookie Rules. Being a developmental level of baseball, focus is towards knowledge, good sportsmanship and fair play, all players are rotated and given opportunity to play various positions during the course of each game.
Rookie Division games are played on weeknights, once or twice per week. Teams from surrounding communities, such as New Norway, Round Hill, Bawlf, and Edberg typically participate in the CMBA league as well. A Year End tournament is scheduled following completion of regular season play prior to the end of June.
Mosquito Division baseball is for players 10 and 11 years old (born in 1998/99)who are interested in enhancing their basic knowledge and skills development of baseball within a recreational or competitive baseball program. It provides a game of baseball played in accordance with the Official Rules of baseball by Baseball Canada, with the incorporation of the rules contained in appropriate league rules. Mosquito baseball provides a grounding in the fundamentals of baseball and stresses good sportsmanship and fair play. CMBA strives to provide both local and competive teams at this division.
PeeWee, Bantam, and Midget divisions have played in the same leagues as Mosquito in the past. We continue to strive to provide teams for both local and provincial/competitive play.
Our local league teams typically play in a league that includes teams from towns headed east on Highway 13. Games at typically played during the week. Teams usually will play once or twice per week and game nights may vary, depending on league scheduling. Our comptetive teams will play within the Baseball Alberta - Provincial Competive Division.
The following is an excerpt from Baseball Alberta information reguarding Competive League Play for 2008 and should provide a solid basis for play in 2009.
COMPETITIVE DIVISION
The objective of the Provincial Competitive League is to provide a competitive yet developmental level of play for players/teams at the Mosquito, Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget age categories in a Province-wide format. Provincial Competitive Leagues will operate on a 3-round seeding basis, with teams playing in a Regional format in May, a North/South Divisional format in June and a Provincial Tier format in July.
May (1st round) (Mosquito, Pee Wee, and Bantam) will be a regional seeding month; the primary focus will be developmental. This round will be used for coaches to determine their team's ability to play in either Division 1 or 2 for the following round. Baseball Alberta will still require game summary sheets to be faxed in and will aid the League Chair/Committee on placement of teams for Round 2. Coaches input will also be taken into account when determining Division of play for Round 2.
May (1st round) (Midget) will be a regional seeding month, with the game results determining whether teams will move into Division I or Division II (North or South) for the month of June. Modified rules will be followed to provide for better team/player development.
June (2nd round) games will be a North/South Divisional seeding month with the game results determining whether teams will move into Tier I, II, III or IV for the month of July. Teams entering late will be given an option of Division I or II and be placed depending on League Chair's decision. Division I teams will be tiered into either Tier I or Tier II and Division II teams will be tiered into either Tier III or Tier IV. (see Team Movement section for exceptions).
July (3rd round) games will be a Provincial round with teams tiered into one of four tiers. Results from this round will determine which teams qualify for the Competitive Tier I, Tier II, Tier III or Tier IV Provincial Championships. If Community Provincial teams enter and there are not enough Community Provincial teams to form that Category of play, those teams will be offered the chance to play in the lowest tier of Competitive play for July. Depending on the amount of teams in each tier Provincial Championships will consist of 4, 5, 6, or 8 teams. The top Baseball Alberta member teams in the Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget Tier I Provincial Championship weekend will represent Alberta at the AA Western Canada Baseball Championships.
